Geology Hike at Paulina Creek Preserve
Join the Deschutes Land Trust and geologist Daniele McKay for an evening geology hike at Paulina Creek Preserve. Take in views of Oregon's largest active volcano while learning about the geologic history of the region and recent volcanic activity at Newberry National Volcanic Monument.
This easy 1–2 mile hike follows dirt and gravel roads with very little elevation gain. The terrain can be uneven at times. Registration is required.
Care for the Land Fall Trash Bash
Give back to the outdoors during the Care for the Land Fall Trash Bash near La Pine State Park. Hosted by Discover Your Northwest, this community cleanup brings volunteers together to help care for public lands in the Deschutes National Forest.
The cleanup takes place in celebration of National Public Lands Day. It's a great opportunity to spend a morning outside, meet other community members, and help keep the area around La Pine beautiful.

Nature Kids: Wings of Wonder
Get outside and explore the natural world during Nature Kids: Wings of Wonder at Paulina Creek Preserve. This family-friendly guided nature walk with the Deschutes Land Trust and naturalist Karen Walsh is designed for kids ages 5–10 and their grown-ups.
During September's adventure, kids will take a closer look at the amazing world of monarch butterflies and become “Junior Lepidopterists” as they learn through hands-on activities and outdoor exploration. It's a fun way for kids to connect with nature, meet other families, and explore one of Central Oregon's beautiful natural areas.

Stargazing at Fort Rock
Experience the Oregon Outback after dark during a guided Stargazing at Fort Rock adventure. This special evening combines a scenic sunset hike with naturalist-led exploration of the stars at Fort Rock, an ancient volcanic tuff ring rising from the high desert.
The September 26 experience coincides with a full moon, creating a unique evening for exploring the landscape as daylight fades and the moon rises. The adventure includes a professional naturalist guide, transportation from Bend, hot cocoa, and a local treat from Sparrow Bakery.
